John F. Kennedy Autographed "Profiles In Courage"

Dust jacket front cover of book

Kennedy's autograph on the first page of the book

Here is a rare and valuable piece of history, Senator John F. Kennedy's famous "Profiles and Courage" book that has been signed by the author! The combination of John Kennedy's PT-109 war record, this book which established his intellectual credentials and his father's money all greatly assisted John Kennedy's political credentials in the 1950s. This book was published in 1956 while he was the United States Senator from Massachusetts and made a run for the Vice Presidential nomination. While he lost the Vice Presidential nomination in a close contest it helped him make the successful run for the Presidency in 1960 when he defeated Hubert Humphrey for the Democratic Party nomination and Richard Nixon in a very close race for the Presidency.

This is the inside flap of the dust jacket which shows some ink residue from the Kennedy signature on the first page in inverse order, with the "y" in Kennedy crossing and under the "A" in COURAGE.

The back dust jacket pictures the 38 year old Massachusetts Senator and his biography

I have reviewed hundreds of examples of Kennedy's signatures are authentic and compared them to the one in this book and I am sure that the autograph is in fact authentic. John Kennedy probably signed this book prior to his becoming President of the United States because of the quality of the signature and the location where I acquired it.. The book was purchased in the Worcester, Massachusetts area which he represented as a United States Senator and his authentic signatures after he became President often have his first and last names running together and without the loop in the "y" at the end of his name (i.e., they are sloppier and less distinct because of the number he had to write). The partial results of my extensive authentication review, including comparisons to his Presidential signatures from the Universal Autograph Collectors Club study pictured below, can be viewed on this web page.

This book and autograph by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy are a classic piece of Presidential and political memorabilia. Few possess authentic Kennedy autographed "Profiles" and all that do cherish it.
