Beautiful 1916 Progressive National Convention Ribbon Badge with Medallion With Relief Busts of Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln
This is the ribbon badge of an alternate delegate to the Progressive Party Convention held in Chicago in 1916. It is a beautiful item in very nice condition with a topper with the the Capitol dome and a medal hanging from the red, white and blue ribbon that states it is from the "Progressive National Convention, Chicago, 1916" and picturing the great Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. It is about 4 1/2 x 2 inches. The 1916 election was a close one between the incumbent President Woodrow Wilson and the Republican Nominee, former New York Governor and Supreme Court Justice Charles Evans Hughes. The Progressive Party Convention in Chicago at which this ribbon badge was issued selected tried to get Theodore Roosevelt to run again but Roosevelt realizing the errors of 1912 instead endorsed the Republican nominee and the Progressives were left with no meaningful role to play in the election.
