Fine Engraving of Ulysses S. Grant In Civil War General's Uniform Framed Portrait Engraved by Western Bank Note Company
This is a spectacular engraving of Ulysses S. Grant in his Civil War General's uniform, the best engraving of Grant that I have seen and all nicely wrapped in a gold color period frame and double matted with the Union deep blue as the primary color. A simply wonderful piece with great detail by the engravers J. H. Littlefield and H. Gugler working for the Western Bank Note and Engraving Company of Chicago, Illinois. You can see another example of Littlefield's work, this time of Abraham Lincoln in 1869, at this web site and Henry Gugler also did a famous life size steel engraving of Lincoln while at Gugler & Sons in Milwaukee. The dimensions of the framed piece is 19 1/2 x 23 1/2 inches and the size of the print inside the mat is 13 1/4 x 16 1/2 inches. As befits an engraving and frame that are over 125 years old, there are some abrasions to the frame which needs some tightening and the engraving has some imperfections on the white background, but not on Grant's image. It is a very compelling portrait of General Grant that you will be proud to own. Price: $600 Pay securely with credit card through PayPal by clicking the button below |
